Irish airports to strike on 30th March
Date 24-03-2009

From media reports: The Irish Times reported thousands of passengers could be affected during an eight-hour strike planned by workers at Dublin, Cork, and Shannon airports next Monday.

A spokesperson for the Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union said its members at the Dublin Airport Authority would begin a work stoppage from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm local time, on 30 March.

Striking workers are expected to include fire and security personnel, as well as air traffic controllers at Ireland's major airports.

The strike would mean that no aircraft could land at or take off from the three airports during the eight-hour period.

The airport strikes will be part of the nationwide "day of strikes" organized by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions to protest companies that have not paid wage increases set out under the national deal negotiated last year.
