Air traffic controllers in Greece are planning to walk off their jobs for four hours on Thursday morning. A news source reported the time of the strike as "8:00 am to 12:00 pm, British Time."
Flights to and from Greece will be grounded when air traffic controllers join public and private sector unions in a strike against government austerity measures and work related issues Unions representing about 2.5 million workers in Greece are staging a 24-hour general strike on Thursday.
The air traffic controllers did not participate in the last two general strikes staged in Greece in May and June. However, after announcing their strike set for Thursday, they also announced they would stage a one-day strike on 14 July.
A spokesperson for Olympic Air said the airline has canceled 28 return flights to domestic destinations, including the Mykonos and Santorini islands, and are rescheduling 23 flights, including international destinations such as London, Paris, and Rome. Olympic has its main hub out of Athens International Airport.
Aegean Airlines also canceled six domestic round-trip flights and may reschedule another 22 flights. Aegean provides travel to Greek destinations as well as to a number of European destinations. Its main base is Athens International Airport, with a secondary hub at Thessaloniki International Airport.
