Canada has issued warnings against travel to certain regions of Myanmar, notably all areas along the border with China in northeastern Shan State.
The risk for civil unrest remains high with the anniversary of the 1988 uprising and of Budhist monks' protest for political reform.
As a result, there is likely to be an increase in police and security forces in Yangon (Rangoon) and elsewhere in the country. Bomb explosions have occured throughout the country and attacks have also occurred in areas frequented by tourists. Further attacks could occur at any time.
Foreigners criticising the Myanmar regime in public may be arrested or detained. |
